From Reactive to Proactive: The Journey of The Peaceful Parent, Lisa Smith

“Every family in the world could use a parent coach”

Lisa Smith, Jai Certified Parent Coach since 2014, grew up in a house full of yellers, and swore that she would never parent in that same way.

When she had her own child, the dreaded parenting patterns that she swore she wouldn’t bring into her own home, came up out of nowhere. It devastated and confused her. She couldn’t understand how she could be a leader in her work life without yelling, but as soon as she walked through the door, she immediately started yelling at her young son. She hated being reactive towards her child, but no matter how many times she promised herself she would stop, she just couldn’t seem to change her behavior.

One day, Lisa was watching a friend’s interview with Jai CEO and Co-Founder Kiva Schuler when the term “parent coach” came up. Elated, Lisa couldn't get to the computer fast enough to learn more about parent coaching! In her heart, she knew immediately that peaceful parenting was the answer she had been searching for.

Lisa originally went into the
Parent Coach certification program with the sole intention of learning the tools for her own family. Within a few weeks, she witnessed an extreme transformation in her home. Lisa’s passion for peaceful parenting only grew stronger with what she was learning and she knew that she truly wanted to expand and start a parent coaching business.

Starting as a part time business, Lisa was finally able to be truly present and connected with her child as he was growing up. She could pick him up from school and make an income from home, all in a line of work that gave her purpose and drive.

Growing a Parenting Coach Business

Looking back at the evolution of her parent coaching business, it’s clear to Lisa just how much her business has to do with her.

“I went from becoming a parent coach, to being a parent coach part-time, to being a full-time parent coach, to now running a substantial business that offers parent coaching. And I love that evolution. I've welcomed every part of that. I'm excited to see where it can go from here with the volume up really high. But I also loved when I had three clients that I met with on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.”

“That's the beauty of this business is that it has a volume switch that you can turn up and down as you go.”

As her son grew up, Lisa progressively had more time to expand and invest in her business. Lisa’s transition from a part-time job to a full-time career in parent coaching has been filled with endless opportunities for growth and expansion, in business as well as in her own parenting.

“When you're a parent coach and you're working with a client, or writing some content, or recording a podcast, or whatever you're doing, you're always learning to be a better parent. And when you're parenting, you're creating material for your clients.”

Lisa Smith continues in her full time parent coaching business, with a high-held value of connection and community in her practice. She wholeheartedly knows that this work changes lives, and she urges those who resonate with this work to avidly pursue it.

“Every family in the world could use a parent coach. We all lose our shoes. We all have our blind spots. It isn't to say, if you have a parent coach, you're a bad parent. You're just looking to bring some new skills in.”
